Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode in Borderlands 4 is the hardest difficulty setting that has the best rewards. Read our guide to learn what Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is and how to unlock it by reading below!
List of Contents

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is Borderlands 4's endgame mode where you can fight the toughest enemies for the best loot. There are five ranks of difficulty, each with its own modifiers for enemy strength and rewards.

You can switch difficulty settings anytime in the menu. To choose the other difficulty settings, you have to disable UVH.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode will be unlocked after you finish the campaign for the first time. When you complete the Secrets of the Vault main mission, you will receive Ultimate Vault Hunter missions to unlock UVH Rank 1 and new features.

To unlock the next UVH levels, you need to complete a new list of challenges under Ultimate Vault Hunter. These challenges are beating specific bosses at your current UVH rank. For example, to get to UVH 2, you will need to clear out all the UVH 1 challenges first.
However, for UVH rank 5, you need to complete all the Primordial Vaults in UVH 4.

After beating the required boss challenges in your current UVH rank, you will need to do a Wildcard Mission, a previous main mission with enemies that have buffed stats and unique traits. By completing this mission, you will unlock the next UVH rank. For UVH 2, this is the Rush The Gate mission.

You can also create a character at Level 30 with UVH Rank 1 enabled. Now, you can easily create new Best Builds for Each Vault Hunter and characters! Use the Bank to share your items between your characters.

One of the UVH Missions is Maurice's Bounty. Once you complete, you will unlock Maurice's Black Market, a vending machine that sells Legendary weapons for cash. Its location will change every Thursday, so make sure you save enough Cash!

UVH will also unlock two weekly missions that are incredibly tough but give great rewards. You can access these missions in the Matchmaking menu.
The Weekly Big Encore Runs is a harder version of an Encore Boss. It will also have a higher chance of dropping its unique loot drops. Instead of cash, you have to pay Eridium to fight it.
The Weekly Wildcard Mission is a more difficult version of a mission where nearly all of the enemies have traits and other modifiers. If you complete it, you will get a guaranteed Legendary drop.
